Emmen - VAM-berg

The VAM-Berg is the setting for a spectacular stage in Drenthe. Here, the peloton faces a challenging course with multiple climbs and a finish at the top of the hill. Visitors are welcome throughout the day to cheer on the riders and experience the unique atmosphere of this cycling event.

Start & Finish

The official start is in Emmen, at the Marktplein. The finish will be at the top of the VAM-berg, close to the fan zone and the finish area — this is where everything comes together: the climbs and the finish. The cycling festival will take place at the Raadhuisplein.

Parking

Visitors, including VIPs, are requested to take the A28 motorway and use exit 29 (Dwingeloo/Spier). Parking is only possible at the designated parking area (see attached map).

From this parking area, there are two options to reach the VAM-Berg:

Option 1: Shuttle bus
A shuttle bus runs from the parking area to the VAM-Berg. The bus drops visitors off at the foot of the hill. From there, It’s about an 800-meter walk on an unpaved, uphill path to reach the course. Sturdy and comfortable footwear is recommended.

Option 2: Walking route
It is also possible to walk from the parking area to the VAM-Berg. This route is approximately 3.5 kilometers long and leads visitors directly to the course.

Please note: part of the route includes unpaved paths and uphill sections. Keep this in mind when planning your visit.

Public Transport

The nearest train station is Beilen.
Please note: there is no direct bus connection between Beilen and Drijber/VAM-Berg. Visitors arriving by train are advised to complete the final part of their journey by bicycle or taxi.

Accessibility

For wheelchair users, accessible areas are available on top of the VAM-Berg, directly behind the finish line.
Dedicated wheelchair transport is arranged from the parking area at Scheidingsweg/Nijverheidsweg.

 

Traffic Measures & Road Closures

During the stage, several closures and measures are in place to ensure the safety of riders and visitors:

  • Several roads around the VAM-Berg will be temporarily closed.
  • Access from Wijster is not possible; Drijberseweg is closed.
  • Access to the VAM-Berg is only possible via the A28, exit 29.
  • There are no official detour routes; always follow the instructions of traffic controllers.
